mom and big kid backpacking trip

it was emma's first week of kindergarten last week so on friday afternoon we escaped to the wilderness for some hardcore adventure. we hiked up 4 miles to a little lake and spent the night with two of my friends and their oldest kids. we managed to start 2 hours later than we planned so we hiked the last 2 hours in complete darkness. luckily we had headlamps and candy to keep the kids going. it was touch and go for a while but after a lot of prayers and pep talks we put up our tents, roasted the dogs and marshmallows, and tucked in. we thought we lost the trail but woke up only about 10 yards from the lake. it was two of the loveliest days i've ever spent. my favorite part was playing with emma in our little tent (because she woke up 1 1/2 hours before any of the other kids- lucky me) and then being the first to discover that we really did make it to the lake after all. thank you Jesus!

Another cool banner, Lidi! You're so amazingly creative. And I loved this post. What a great memory for the two of you to share, about the power of prayer AND having fun together. Way cool.

I'm glad you had fun... and I'm glad I wasn't there because I get super panicked when it's bedtime and I haven't arrived... I'd be completely freeking out that I'm going to get attacked by a wild animal, or a storm will come, or something totally outrageous will occur and I'll never return home... too many movies...
